Mark Toney’s are Newcastle’s oldest and finest Italian coffee shops and ice cream parlours. Established in 1902 and still run by the Marcantonio family, these ice cream parlours and cafés are part of Newcastle’s history, with most Geordies having a fond memory of being taken there as a child, perhaps for their first ever Knickerbocker Glory, or, later on, meeting special friends there!
The Grainger Street cafe, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2011, is Newcastle’s oldest surviving coffee shop, and we have served Mark Toney’s ice cream in Newcastle’s traditional Victorian Grainger Arcade for over 100 years.
We believe there’s still room in this world for individuality and tradition, so we don’t copy the multinational chains, where everything looks bland and tastes the same. We offer you a truly personal, individual welcome, with authentic Italian coffees and wholesome food served with a smile. We cherish our reputation as Newcastle’s best-loved home-grown cafes, and we are proud to offer the old fashioned traditions of good quality and value for money.
We serve a wide range of wholesome homemade food and drinks, from an authentic Italian cappuccino and freshly made sandwiches to main meals at very competitive prices.
And, if you would like an authentic ice cream parlour experience, come and sit at our marble-topped tables and indulge yourself with one of our world famous ice cream sundaes, made with our own Gold medal award winning Italian ice cream.
