He beat off stiff competition to be crowned Newcastle’s first Curry Chef Champion in a contest run by the city council and will now go on to represent Newcastle at a regional final in October.
Judges were impressed with Ram’s lentil curry leaf soup, served with bread to start and a main course of Jeera Lamb, seasoned with cumin, spinach potato curry, coriander sauce and complemented with a side dish of dill and tomato salsa.
Part of the judging panel, Coun Anita Lower, deputy leader of the city council, said: “The food was absolutely stupendous and exceeded the standard set.”
