Happy Chinese New Year! Join in the celebrations (27 – 29 January) as we usher in the year of the dragon with Chinese-inspired events, performances and activities for all the family, marking Chinese New Year 2012.
Enjoy traditional crafts, dance, martial arts, food and drink, games and much more (from Friday 27 – Sunday 29 January) with a jam-packed programme of events culminating in a vibrant and colourful day of celebrations on and around Stowell Street on Sunday 29 January.
Watch the spectacular dragon, lion and unicorn dances under the ornate Ceremonial Arch as you hear firecrackers explode, taste delicious Oriental foods, witness amazing traditional performances
and join in the excitement of this joyful event.

12noon: Eye Dotting Ceremony
A unique opportunity to witness the auspicious Eye Dotting Ceremony of the new Chinese Dragon as he is awoken from his slumber to the sound of firecrackers.
12.30pm – 5pm: Performances
An exciting spectacle of performances and demonstrations, with the lion dance arriving to distribute Lucky Money at 4pm approx. Programmed by LT.MM Art Studio and Chinese Students and Scholars Association (Newcastle University).
