Watercolours and drawings spanning more than 200 years celebrate the heritage and renewal of Newcastle.
On display will be fascinating views of the old centre of Newcastle around the quayside, castle and cathedral. Alongside these are scenes by John Dobson and Benjamin Green picturing the imposing new city centre they were creating in Grey Street and Grainger Street.
Pictures on show include William Bell Scott's 1863 medieval scene, Building the New Castle, and John Storey's two huge panorama views contrasting Elizabethan Newcastle and the Victorian city. Thomas Pattison's The Tyne celebrates a city built on the labour of miners, shipyard workers and sailors, while Byron Dawson.s St James' Football Ground, shown in the 1940s, is a celebration of the common man.
