We are a specialised fund in the North East of England that aims to enhance the lives of local disabled children and their families through the provision of essential equipment, learning aids and custom built apparatus.
The charity is unique in its bond with the Evening Chronicle, the region's biggest selling daily newspaper and enjoys a special place in the hearts of the paper's readers. The Sunshine Fund was established in 1928 by King George V during his visit to Tyneside.
To commemorate the opening of the Tyne Bridge, he made a small donation to give children a day out at the coast.
The Evening Chronicle, based in Newcastle upon Tyne, adopted the fund and in 1995 it was granted charitable status.
Since then we have provided almost £1 million for essential equipment, learning aids and custom-built apparatus to improve the quality of children's lives across the region.
